Radar Detectors

Recommended Posts

I've never owned a radar detector, but I'm curiously confident that I should probably get one in the next couple months before I recieve Shelby. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with these? Is a concealed, or remote system as effective?

I'm just worried about visibility and it falling off the windsheild.

Oh, and I am buying an expensive car, for me, so price is important. So I really don't think I even should look at the >$400 stuff.

valentine 1 all the way

After being a hardcore V1 fan, I had to switch because the laser toys in my wife's Infiniti FX set the V1 off constantly. After much research I found a new favorite. And rather than try to sway anyone with opinion, check out radar.com and other sites. They'll be very specific about a particular model of Beltronics. As long as I can disable the &^%$# talking feature, it's incredible. Guess what? I really CAN live without the arrows!

Plus, when you buy the Beltronics (you can't find this one in the store), pick it up on eBay. I did and saved more money than if I'd gone with Gieco.

There is only one. Saved me at least 1/2 a dozen times. Paid for itself the 1st time. Don't cheap out or your insurance will be stupider. :read:

Go with the ValentineOne you won't be disappointed it is the top detector. There are other things out there but avoid the SPECTERGUARD anti-photo license plate covers from TELSTARONE as they don't work and they have tons of BS disclaimers on their website. They don't back their product. They also operate out of a P.O. Box in Homossasa Springs Florida as they don't want to be found and you can't return your merchandise back to a P.O. Box. This crook will stick you with crap that doesn't work.

They also have other sites under different names that sells spy espionage stuff like phone bugs, covert cameras, Avoid them like the plague.

I am sure there are other LEGITIMATE vendors out there that sells a product like this that does work. :angry2:

I got the Valentine1 & once you have the arrows to SHOW you where it's coming from instead of just a "Beep" & looking everywhere, you will never go back. Plus they will always update it for you so it never gets obsoleted & a hidden remote location & a motorcycle option also. check out their website below & read any & all info about detectors. You can even read the owners manual & what things to be aware of.

Mike Valentine started escort & then sold the company. He had to sign a 10 year no compete clause, but during that time he came up with this detector & it's simply the BEST 1 out their.

The V1 is great! The arrow feature is VERY nice to have. The BEL RX 65 is a nice unit as well. I have both and would recomend either unit. But the arrows on the V1 is a nice feature.

Veil anti-laser coating WORKS!

Perhaps that Veil works but I can tell you for a fact that the SpecterGuard anti-photo plates are crap and don't work what a waste of $$$$ :angry2: :nonono::rant:

I've had great success with Beltronics products. I've had a couple of them and currently use a Bel radar/lidar detector. Knock on wood, but no tickets with the Bel.

ValentineOne is a no brainer as once you have those arrows you can't go without them plus you can program the V-1 so you can eliminate the X-band and K-band where all false alarms are at from garage doors to grocery stores. At least in this neck of the woods KA is used more frequently so it depends on the area you are in as to which band you would want to shut off. I don't get any falses or anything for that matter only when there is law enforcement in the area. :shift: :burnout: :burnout:

From a couple different sites, I got it narrowed down to the Bel x65 pro, the esctort passport 8500 x50, and the valentine 1.8.

The bel I can find buy it now prices around $200.

The escort around $260.

The valentine 1.8 is still above $300.

Is the v1 wothrh the extra$$?

How much should it be to install something like the sr-7 or another remote detector?

Valentine One, Great Performance, Hard wire it between visor and mirror. (Fits on a 03 Mach 1,) assume same room on 05+? Yes, expensive, so will be insurance rate increases and 150.00 speeding tickets  Wildhorses

There is a silkscreened area above the mirror that really cuts range. I think the best place will be the pass. side just below the tint line. Think I might ask an old A.F. buddy of mine(Com. Radar Sys) about the best way to go about it.

I have wondered on the perforated sun screen, but from vehicles without screen ,it still seems to have optimum range, even with laser motorcycle cops. But sure have not ran a performance test. Just handy to me near eye level, within easy reach, and up out of the sun's rays. Let us know, thanks WH

Bel RX65. No arrows, but rates higher in every test over the V1.

I agree, EC. I think I'm going to go with the Bel RX65. I've heard the V1 is way too sensitive. I don't want my detector going off every time I pass a grocery store, a house with a microwave oven, or an old guy with a pacemaker.

At first I was going to go with the Passport RX7, but I've changed my preference on this. I'm going with the Bel RX75. I'm pretty sure it's the same as the RX65, but it gets hard wired into the car, with a bi-colored LED mounted in the IP for stelth runs through VA.

What about these active laser jammers? Anyone even own one of these things? Comments?

I bought the Blinder Extreme m40, 4 sensors 2 front 2 back. Haven't installed yet. It's supposed to be "the best".

Driving alone (no other cars) on a Freeway at 1:00 am, pitch black night, my Passport 8500

on and doing about 95MPH, suddenly i see red & blue light behind me and got the ticker for 90.

The cop follow me without radio or lights on for about a 1/2 mile. So, if they want to get you they will

no matter what radar detector you use.

I'm confused here.

Are you guys talking about trying to pick up police devices that measure speed?

Why...that sounds like...you're driving over the Speed Limit? Intentionally?

You mean, if I buy one of these detector devices, I wouldn't have to worry about a Speeding Ticket?

That - is - so - cool - dude! :baby:

Imagine...being able to go as fast as I want....I better tell daddy about this.

I could finally shift into 4th gear!! :happy feet:

Or...maybe...into...5th?

I tried a Passport Solo - no workey. Smokey sees me - smokey hits the instant on - Ruf get ticket. Need laser jammer.

I understand that radar detectors are really a safety device. Most people claim that their useage prompts them to not speed. This line of reasoning makes perfect sense to me as I find the cruise control puts me to sleep, while a high pitched beep would acutually wake me up.

So in response, I think that most of us would likely only purchase such as device as a piece of safety equipment. I wonder if that would qualify for an insurance discount. :shift:

:hysterical2: Nice try, carnut. Somehow I don't think that's going to fly with the insurance agent. :hysterical:
