Drag Racing Results

Haven't seen too many topics surrounding sanctioned drag racing in our beloved S197 GT's, so how about posting some times and info to help each other out? I'll go first...

My 07 GT Coupe is a heavy automatic car (3,620 lbs with me in the car). When I go to the local dragstrip I pull out the jack & spare tire, and run a 1/4 tank of gas to minimize weight.

I never did a baseline when my car was stock. But with the DiabloSport tuner and 4.10 gears on the factory tires, here's my best numbers at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA. Traction was plentiful...

R/T = 0.132

60' = 2.006

330' = 5.635

1/8 mi ET = 8.620

1/8 mi MPH = 82.59

1000' = 11.209

1/4 mi ET = 13.404

1/4 mi MPH = 102.92

Went back after I had the 3,800 rpm stall converter installed, but it was warmer by about 10-15 degrees outside, so the air wasn't as good. Still improved in most areas, but traction is now a big problem with the stall converter working so well to launch the car...

R/T = 0.005

60' = 1.862

330' = 5.472

1/8 mi ET = 8.492

1/8 mi MPH = 81.55

1000' = 11.109

1/4 mi ET = 13.319

1/4 mi MPH = 102.13

The warmer air took away some horsepower, so the mph #'s are lower, but the ET's are better all across the entire timeslip thanks to the new stall converter. Some cooler air and drag radials should get me closer to 12.9 or 13.0. I'm heading back to the track this Wednesday with drag radials, but the weatherman is saying there may be some slight rain possibly. At least the temp is supposed to lower (mid 60's), so if it's dry then I should post some improved numbers.

Anyone else drag racing their S197? I'd love to see some numbers and details on mods to see what is working and what isn't working.

Bryan, are you ever gonna get to the dragstrip? You can't imagine just how much I would like to see what kind of numbers your car runs. I'm mostly interested in the mph your car would cross the finish line at, as that is most telling of the horsepower getting to the ground.

Made it to the dragstrip again last night (Pacific Raceways). Ran some better numbers than ever with the car. Here's my best run from last night...

R/T = 0.076

60' = 1.833

330' = 5.424

1/8 mi ET = 8.444

1/8 mi MPH = 81.15

1000' = 11.066

1/4 mi ET = 13.280

1/4 mi MPH = 101.92

The weather for that pass was 71 degrees, 57% humidity, 29.86 barometer, and a density altitude of 1345' above sea level (our track is only 250' above sea level so the air wasn't so great). Using the NHRA 1/4 mile correction for sea level that run would have been...

1/4 mi ET = 13.09

1/4 mi MPH = 103.40

I continue to mess with the tune in the car to see if I can squeeze out a 12.99 timeslip (uncorrected), but it'll probably be in the cool, fall air before that happens. Any other 2005+ GT's running at the track out there?

I went to Baytown, TX recently with my brand new helmet (I'm a racecar driver dammit!)

Temp was about 90, humidity around 70-80% (typical around here)

60' 2.1

1320 13.2 @ 108

She flies, but I need to get some sticky tires - you'd think 295/45's would hook, but no dice. Based on my HP, my goal is to get into the mid 12's around 110mph assuming I can get a respectable 60' time. The truth is though I'm kinda scared to launch hard since it's my daily driver.

My dad had '40 Ford with no back seat (salesman's special). My bro and I used to sit on this small wooden bench (I still have it! ;-).

It's amazing -- all those years, no seat belts ...we never got hurled through any windows :hysterical: (tho it was fun to see who could make the other slide off in thurns :happy feet: ), ...no negligence law-suits :hysterical2: ...just common sense.

Sometimes I think we overlegislate just a weeee bit too much today :hysterical: for all those :censored: with no common sense whatsoever :rant:

US41 Dragstrip 12.20@111 with a 1.74 60'. Vortech HO, Steeda LCA's, ET Streets. Stock everything else. That was with a soft tune only making 360hp. Tuned now by Bob Kurgan to (91 octane=430hp) (93 octane=450 hp) (100 octane=priceless). Have not had a chance to get back to the track since the retune and moving to California. Hoping for mid 11's ...

Long time since I've been here!

I went to Redline Raceway (1/8th mi) outside of Dallas last week -

1.84 60'

7.74 1/8th

93.30 mph

This is on M&H 275/45-18 DR's launching at 2500rpm. Will get the 60' down to 1.6x I hope so I can run 7.6x.

See the timeslip. I'm in the right lane - tower had the numbers mixed up.

Me mods are in my sig.

Man, those Whipples sure are fast on our S197 GT's! I totally forgot about this thread I started over a year ago. Since then, my 07 GT has benefitted from forced induction. Best two runs are the slips below from Pacific Raceways (aka Seattle Int'l Raceway) from a few weeks ago. 7.89 and 90.18 in the 1/8 mile, and 12.34 and 111.93 in the 1/4 mile. I'm getting great traction, but my 60' times are still lackluster (in the 1.80's to 1.90's). I'm car #4164 (right lane on both slips below)...

Good times Five Oh - I see guys cutting 1.5x & 1.6x 60's and it drives me crazy! lol I'll get there eventually. I have the "old style" rotors in my Whipple. The guys with the Gen II rotors are making 10#'s of boost basically with an 8# pulley - that's how efficient the new design is. I'm ordering an 8rib pulley kit as well as a new clutch, flywheel, and alumininum driveshaft this week! My car will be down most of December while I figure out how to put all that on the car :)

Good luck at the track!

Wow! That's just plain scary fast. And an automatic, at that!

Is the "old style" putting out 8 psi of boost? If so, the Whipple sure makes good use of that 8 psi in your car. My non-intercooled Vortech makes a maximum of 10.5 psi boost (at 6,400 rpm's), and I'm definitely slower than you (my best 1/8 miles are is 7.98 @ 90 mph and 7.89 @ 88).

Woot! Love me some turbo. There wasn't a viable kit that allowed me to keep my cats when I did mine or I would have gone turbo, too!

No, mine puts out 10psi but with a smaller pulley so the newer ones basically get the same boost with 20% less effort. Bastards. lol 8-] I'm getting a new 8 rib pulley kit and the blower pulley will actually drop slightly in size so I'll have about 11psi then. The 6 rib belt just slips too much on the Whipple (and the Saleen and KB!).

Have you considered an intercooler or some meth injection on the Vortech. I used the Snow meth kit on my Procharged F150 and it helped alot! Especially in the summer. Does take some tuning though. Meth injection works good with centrifugal blowers.
