40th Anniversary for the GT500

I am surprised that only "Milstang" has mentioned that the 2007 Shelby Cobra GT500 will mark the 40th Anniversary for the GT500!!! Not even Ford or SVT has made mention of it. Am I the only one choking on how cool that is. To let it go without doing something special to indicare and celebrate that would be a crime. Although they will all be instant modern classics and collectables, only the 2007 model year will be that extra something special. Are Ford and SVT planning something??? What would we like to see happen???

Thank you King!

I am hoping something comes with the car. Maybe a collection of the original commercials, a video of Carroll talking about the new GT500.... something!

Of course I am still going to love the car no matter what, but for it to coincide with the 40th anniversary has the potential for something really neat.

Ha!

That would be great, although if they do wrap the dash in leather....

I plan on getting an extra fuse box cover under the hood and donating to the Shelby Cancer Foundation, you can get Shelby to sign one item that way. I can then have the cover on for car shows and nice in safe inside when I want to drive the car all over.

... and all over.....

Sorry, daydreaming and trying to wait for next summer.

Thanks for the addr Crispy. I guess I'll be popping off the horn plate from the steering wheel and making a donation.

I believe the fact that it is the 40th anniversary of the GT500 is exactly why they are calling it a GT500. Otherwise I think they would call it a Shelby SVT Cobra, or something of that nature. If it had come out in '05 or '06 I'll bet they would have called it a GT350, in honor of those cars. I am hoping that the '08 is called a GT500KR, in honor of the '68's. I really didn't think we see a convertible until '08, and that they would be called GT500KR convertibles, but I guess that shows what I know! No matter what they call it, it's gonna be an incredible car!

I think we have a live one, but you've got to read the whole thread. "On the 40th[aniversary edition], We are working it all out with Ford, Ford Racing, SVT, more to follow later." "In my new role as

President of Shelby Automobiles, I will be working on many new exciting marketing and manufacturing programs such as the new Ford Shelby Cobra GT 500 with Ford Motor Company[.]" TMS Especially pgs 3-5  60 days folks until our bank accounts change... B)

Very interesting! I hope Amy can stomp some of the rumors and speculation with accurate information. Is she on this board too? After all, it is "TheGT500Source."

Amy, Are you out there?

Sounds like crispy might be onto some information from Shelby Automobiles that might suggest that they may offer something to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the GT500, like a package of somekind maybe.

Anybody heard anything that might be going on with Shelby Automotives, or any aftermarket for the GT500?

Yeah, I am hoping for a package like the 35th Ann Mustang owners got. A box with all kinds of goodies, book, anniversary stuff etc... I bought one years later from a 35th Mustang owner. Would be nice to put in a CS autographed part of the car. Sunvisor f.e.

Sweet deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can we make that happen???

There's no way he'll sign 7500-10k units.

But maybe 100 units????? Maybe?????

Any ideas???

KingCobra.

Yep, maybe????? The only way to do it would be a print of the autograph or embroidery made by Ford in the factory. But then it is still not the real thing.

I think I'll buy an extra console door or glovebox & have it autographed myself...

I was wondering if the top of the passanger airbag cover would be easy enough to reinstall, to have CS sign that???

Any thoughts???

I am not sure if that is easy to do. Have to look for that on the 2005 shop manual dvd.

Do you have that Pat???

The cover is obviously two piece, have Shelby's signature on the top one would be very, very cool.

That's where I've seen him sign his AC Cobras.

Yes, I have it.

Are you able to find out if that part is replaceable and orderable to have signed???

If so would you urethane it, or what would you do to protect the signature from cleaning products and uv???

Look at the drawing. It looks like one part. 044A74. Probably with the air bag. Anybody else?

Looks like that to me also. I wouldn't have him sign that because if the air bag ever went off that part would have to be replaced. Some other area might be better. Have to give that a little more thought though.

I guess you're right, the glovebox is probably the best. I was thinking the airbag cover was higher, and more out of the way so nobody's knees or anything else would scratch the signature. Because then I would have to kill you!!!
