VNMOUS1
Will the price gouging drop a little now that 2000 more cars are going to be produced? Nope. Don't you think there's significantly more demand than supply at 9000 units? bj
lawdude
Don't you think there's significantly more demand than supply at 9000 units? bj Short term, it doesn't matter how many units are produced over the year - there will be a relatively few released and prices will be high. Long term, 9000 first year should more than satisfy demand and prices will drop.
BadTony
My guess would be that prices will most likely be above MSRP for both model years. Look at the current Mustang GT overpricing. At a dealership that marks prices up, the markup usually is between 2k & 5k currently. Of course not all dealerships mark up their cars regardless of model. It's too bad that Ford won't compile a list of dealers that have a history of 'marking up' prices above MSRP and publish that along side of a list of dealers that have a history of 'not marking up' prices. supe
Look at the GT. They want to build 4500 cars then cut it short at 4000 cars. Gt pricing has droped. The local dealer is stuck with three GT's. One just went out on a 1 year lease, one on the showroom floor, the last one is on a storage lift in the back. I will buy a GT500, but i will not get raped. If the market adujusted pricing gets out of hand , I am out. How about a Hemi Challenger
CT Pats Fan
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. There is a lot of interest/chatter in the GT500 (this board is a testament to that). BUT, I feel that the interest is from a relatively small number of serious buyers. For example, Dealer A says they have 15 people on their list, Dealer B says they have 20, and Dealer C says they have 10. Does that mean there are 45 separate individuals interested? Or is it more like 20, with people on multiple lists. I know I'm on about a dozen. Are the dealers overestimating the demand? Especially with the MSRP creeping up, and ADM adding to that. Folks that got on lists thinking they were getting in line for a $40K car may not have the means or the goodwill built up with their spouse to turn that into a $60K car. 2,000 more cars than anticipated and at least a 2 year run. This could play out ok for the folks that really want one.

As Shelby's start hitting the road, the people with the deep pockets and speculators will divert their attention elsewhere, and the waiting lists will shrink. If they can't be the first one on the block with the Shelby, they'll find something else that will.

Too many GT500 buyers are on multiple lists giving a false demand signal to dealers and Ford. That's why I've been asking people on our list to please inform me if they end up buying/contracting a GT500 from another dealer so that we can narrow our list down as much as possible. It has been as big as 90 customers deep, but I've got it down to just 54 customers as of today as people disappear or tell me that they're getting one elsewhere for sure. When a poorboy like me starts driving around in my msrp shelby in a couple of months and the people around here with deep pockets still don't have their 60k Shelby, I think some will be irritated and not buy. That would actually be a good turn of events because it would get the pricing down much faster.
CT Pats Fan
I agree. That would actually be a good turn of events because it would get the pricing down much faster. There are a few things that I believe 1) As price increases, demand decreases. ADM will level the demand. 2) People simply aren't patient. Folks that look at this as a marathon (~2 years) vs a sprint will come out of this happier. 3) Face it, as much as we LOVE these cars and HAVE to have one, they are a want, not a need. Lots of things happen that can take a $40-60K car off of the "Want" list over a 2 year period. This isn't an impulse buy. I have goodwill built up with my spouse now that gives me the green light on this car. That could change in a heartbeat!!!! 4) Folks that want one because they believe it is a great investment will come to their senses. As others have pointed out, these cars will depreciate, probably at the same rate as any other car. Even the classics depreciated and took years to build their value back up, and their production runs were MUCH smaller, especially when you look at 65-66 as a percentage of OVERALL Mustangs sold. 5) As an addendum to #4, there will be a secondary market that will alleviate demand. 6) The next new thing will alleviate demand - whether that is a hotter Mustang (GT500KR), or a "tweener" (GT350?), or something else (even from some other manufacturer), the people that have to be the first on their block with the latest toy, will move on. I think there will be a shakeout of buyers. Yup, deep, deep pockets and greed will reign for the first 6 months. There will be doom and gloom on this board of folks not getting their cars (me included.) But I think 2007 (last 2007 models and 2008 models) will bring a lot of smiles out here. gchaser1
I hope that prices decrease so that anybody who truly desires a GT500 can develop the means to acquire one. However, I think there are numerous serious buyers who would purchase this car for more than MSRP even in 2008. For these buyers its not so much about who is the first one on the block with a new toy. Its more about having one of these cars for a long time. Its a Shelby, and demand will be above supply. If you really want one, don't wait for the prices to come down because there will be people willing to pay more. I view it as a once in a lifetime purchase, and I won't allow it to escape me. How many times have you heard your dad or uncle say, "I should have bought it, but I just didn't want to spend the extra money." Looking back, it wasn't that much extra. The same will be true twenty years from now.
CT Pats Fan
If folks want one, because they want one, that's all well and good. That would describe me. But if folks think it's an investment, they'd me MUCH better off putting $50-60K in a mutual fund, let it grow for 10 years, then if they want one of these, buy it on the cheap with the earnings from the original $50-60K and STILL have that money in their pocket. The Roush website has a little tidbit about their cars depreciating at the same rate as the factory mustangs or f-150's. Anybody thinking otherwise is fooling themselves. shel-b001
I would agree with BoneDoc The demand will carry into the 08` model Some dealers here have already indicated a slight price increase in 2008 models. Not sure how true this info is.
