mosconiac
Well, it was a pretty good day for the family yesterday. Ford delivered the GT500 as promised on August 6th. We had Lynch Ford do the mandatory PDI stuff only and leave the cleaning to us. The 2008 GT500 joined our 2007 SGT, 2003 Cobra, 1990 Limited Edition (7-Up), 1968 GT (427), and 1968 Californa Special in the Mustang collection. The GT500 was a virgin when we got her...all of the plastic wrapping & inspection stickers were in tact, it was filthy (although it doesn't look too bad in the pics), and she had 13 miles on her before the 40 mile cruise home. What's your opinion on the following issues? 1. We were amazed that the GT500 did not have the interior & underhood Shelby production plaques that the SGT has...and the old Shelbys had. Of course, Carrol will sell you the interior plaque for $299...but it won't have a Shelby production # anyway because the GT500's don't seem to get one assigned. I guess thats because they're built in Ford's plant, not in Shelby's plant. 2. Same goes for the floormats. We got basic Mustang mats where the SGT had Shelby mats. 3. The clutch & shifter feel far better than the SGT versions...although 1st gear is very noisy compared to the Cobra T-56. 4. The carpet is butchered where they installed the Shaker 1000. I'll take it out and reinstall, but I m just curious if anyone got their GT500 this way. 5. The exhaust might have a rattle. I can pick out a short-lived rattle just as I rev it and just as it regains idle. I wish Ford would have given the GT500 the stance Shelby gave the SGT. This thing looks like a 4x4...just like my Cobra did stock. Oh well, some springs, a mid-pipe, & a cat-back and it should be all good. ;D The motor was assembled by the team of: Fred Kemp & Brian Klepak. mosconiac
Here's a few (Ok, a bunch) of pics of the car. The day as overcast so the pics are kinda "flat". A few exterior shots...
mosconiac
A few interior shots... Do you like how they butchered the carpet to install the "boomin" Shaker 1000... A few motor shots... Nice to see a solid axle again... At home with the SGT...
5.4 Shelby
congrats. Looks like you are the first 2008 on the site. Mine should be within 2-3 weeks. I don't think the carpet is supposed to be like that. You don't like the SGT shifter? The one I sat in and rowed the gears felt nice.
Joker45
Nice pics. Congrates on getting your car. What are your first impressions of it? Did you get HID lights and the ambient lighting? If so do you like it?
1badsho
mosconiac congratulations ..... Beautiful car ( but arent they all ? ) Now let the mods begin !! Joe G
What's your opinion on the following issues? 1. I guess thats because they're built in Ford's plant, not in Shelby's plant. This was never offered... SAI doesn't touch it (like they do the SGT), so no Shelby plaque unless you pay. 2. Same goes for the floormats. We got basic Mustang mats where the SGT had Shelby mats. See #1 3. The clutch & shifter feel far better than the SGT versions...although 1st gear is very noisy compared to the Cobra T-56. A lot has been written about the clutch here... do a search and you'll find a ton. Basically, it's very HD so is a little louder. 4. The carpet is butchered where they installed the Shaker 1000. I'll take it out and reinstall, but I m just curious if anyone got their GT500 this way. Don't remember seeing that before - hopefully others with the S1000 system will chime in. Either way, it does look horrible. 5. The exhaust might have a rattle. I can pick out a short-lived rattle just as I rev it and just as it regains idle. I wish Ford would have given the GT500 the stance Shelby gave the SGT. This thing looks like a 4x4...just like my Cobra did stock. Time to read up... it's been this way since Job 1 MY2007. Lots of options if you want to go aftermarket. Oh well, some springs, a mid-pipe, & a cat-back and it should be all good. ;D The motor was assembled by the team of: Fred Kemp & Brian Klepek. First, congrats on your delivery! Exciting day. And quite a stable you have there!! Second, see above to answer your questions...

mosconiac
Thanks for the help, Joe G!!! You don't like the SGT shifter? The one I sat in and rowed the gears felt nice. I don't hate it, this is just better. The biggest difference is in clutch engagement. The SGT is way off the floor which makes it tough to gauge when its going to begin loading the motor. Pedal effort seems the same though. What are your first impressions of it? Did you get HID lights and the ambient lighting? If so do you like it? Honestly, since we haven't gotten into boost...it feels about the same as the SGT with a slightly softer ride though. It does have the HID's but I haven't played with them at night yet to see how I like them. The exhaust note seems quite a bit different. The ambient lighting is a bit underwhelming. The user can choose one of about a dozen colors...kinda like the dash lighting. I'll post a pic of some of the ambient lighting below. It also illuminates with footwells but is very dim. Will this be garaged for most of its life or will be used and appreciated every day ! ? The SGT & GT500 will fit in somewhere between daily drivers and garage queens. The SGT is about 3 months old and it has 1500 sunny day miles. Neither will sit under cover of dust. Why ya' readin this when you should be out driving your Shelby(s)? Congratulations! Hey, every once in a while you have put the keys down and go to work so you can afford these things, right? Cup holders lined with "ambient lighting"...you change the color by clicking the button to the right of the cup holders.
EmpireStateGT500
Do you have a no drill front plate holder or do you need one at all?
mosconiac
Do you have a no drill front plate holder or do you need one at all? Nope, we'll drive it sans plate and pay the $35 ticket if they pull us over....just like I did with my Cobra. I've only paid them off one time in 5 years with that car...which is a good deal to me versus chopping my fascia.
Big_Slick737
:happy feet: :happy feet: CONGRATS !!! Great Color Choice... Thanks for sharing the pics, it was nice to see a good close up of the Ambient lighting too. mosconiac
Have you noticed the new harmonic balancer on the 08. thanksJJ I really wouldn't know the difference. I am not intimately aware of the two model years to draw comparisons. If we were talking the differences between '03 & '04 Cobras I could write a detailed story. I'm a real newbie to these GT500's. I plan on detailing the car this weekend, so I could crawl under and take pics if you want. Let me know.

mosconiac
Several people have expressed interest in pics of the HID's, I will pull the SGT & GT500 out of the garage and pose them side-by-side so you can see the difference in headlight color & intensity. I'll try to do it over this weekend in daylight & darkness.

mosconiac
I plan on detailing the car this weekend, so I could crawl under and take pics if you want. Let me know. I spent all day detailing the GT500 but I couldn't see any way to get a great pic of the balancer. Sorry. I did sit the GT & GT500 side-by-side for a headlight comparison and the difference is dramatic. The GT500 is WAY better. The GT was (embarassingly) dirty & bug spattered so I didn't take pics. I'm detailing it tomorrow morning, so I'll take pics after it is presentable. I did compare exhaust notes and the GT500 is WAY too quiet and reserved. The GT has a much better idle & growl although it still isn't as good as my '03 Cobra with full aftermarket exhaust. Further, the ride height is great on the GT and the GT500 looks funny beside it. The darker interior of the GT500 is much better looking than the grey GT interior. I still like the GT500 shifter & clutch far better than the GT. mosconiac
I got a chance to do some side-by-side shots, but the comparison of the two headlights was disappointing. Since these were daytime shots, the color & intensity just didn't come across like I had hoped. It is quite dramatic in real life. Oh well, I'll get a night time shot sometime. I also documented all factory protective covers, wrappings, stickers...etc. If you did not see how your GT500 arrived at the dealer, check it out here... http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v407/mos...%20GT500%20PDI/ BTW, we detailed the SGT & GT500 over the weekend...the heat index was about 105*! I caught a nice rainbow effect in this shot.
