2007 GT500 Announcement from Ford today

Recommended Posts

  • Job #1 is still June 5th, with the OK to ship planned for the last week of June.
  • SVT is now planning to build 9,000 GT500's for 2007.
  • Final allocations to dealers by the end of May.
  • Hero cards to be sent to dealers in June.
  • The premium interior option includes red stitching. The dash top is not leather, though, but a soft trim substance.
  • SIRIUS available at Job #1.
  • No brokering of GT500's will be allowed. The customer must buy from SVT certified dealer only.
  • Significant markups over MSRP are being heavily discouraged by SVT.
  • No commodity restriction on convertible vs coupe. Order either in whatever % dealer chooses to.

Lastly, MSRP was NOT announced today! It is to be announced in the last week of May along with V6/GT Mustang pricing. However, the GT500 Marketing Manager made a very interesting comment. He said that while the GT500 will be one of just 10 or so cars on Earth with 500 or more horsepower, it will be the only one priced "under $50,000." Interpret that comment however you like, and please don't shoot the messenger!

What's a hero card?

It is a color glossy two sided 8.5" x 11" cardboard sales aid for the salesman on a given product. It's supposed to make a salesman a "hero" by consolidating all the important info in one place for ready reference. Many salespeople give them away to customers for a keepsake.

Was their dialogue on the call, or was it a monologue? I ask because I can't imagine you or anyone else wouldn't have asked for specific clarification on the 50K issue! So, I'm guessing: Monologue.

And thanks for the the Hero info.

I assume that Ford was being inclusive to all configurations. We all assumed a fully optioned 'vert would be likely between $45-49.99k anyway. This doesn't seem to be new information. Now we have to wait an additional 3.5 weeks for the MSRP...dissapointing! My bet is that it won't be disclosed until May 31st at 4:59pm.

Great news that Job 1 is on-time!!

I don't understand how Canada can have their MSRP now and we have to wait until the end of the month. :headscratch::censored::banghead:

First, Thanks Five o, It is very disappointing to not have the MSRP on the car and the under 50 G for the car, can mean a lot of things. Although verts are about 5g more than coupes. All speculation at this point :(

Few thoughts:

- Good to know that production qty's are on the high side of their previous estimates

- "Under $50,000" comment makes me feel a little sick to my stomach

- the "no brokering" comment - does this mean that one dealer can't sell their GT500 to ANY other dealer, or just not to any NON-SVT dealer?

And, don't worry - I holstered the gun. No shooting today. You're one of the good ones!

p.s. - you're my hero, so can I have your HERO card??

I don't either!!!

My guy's day off is today, and I haven't heard anything yet.

I called the dealership, but the salespeople don't have this info yet,

I have been dealing with the SVT manager only.

Maybe find out tomorrow.

it is rumors and dishonest dealers.People say they have a price have an order etc, yet if you pressed the dealer they will tell you they dont have that info.

I seen and touched the upper "faux leather" brow today and it sure is not leather. I personally think the "pie" section in the middle is not so swell (stitching). It does not follow the contours of the brow at ALL. But still, From the drivers position it does look good. Then again, I make dashboards for a living. And the normal person wont see what I see (So I am told  ).

"No brokering of GT500's will be allowed. The customer must buy from SVT certified dealer only."

"Significant markups over MSRP are being heavily discouraged by SVT."

Can you explain this further - brokering, and does "heavy discouraged" mean anything to a SVT dealer?

It was a dialogue, but I didn't call in any questions as time was really tight for questions (we ran past the allotted satellite time for the broadcast).

Am I missing something here. Does this mean that the original reports of Shelby's going to roughly 4000 dealers was bad info. Are we back to true SVT dealers?!?

Thanks for the info - man.

I'm a little bummed, though.

My local store took my $1k deposit at MSRP. They were under the impression that all Ford Stores would get at least one Shelby.

This news makes it sound like SVT stores only.

Junk.

Five O. Good job buddy. No compalints, no editorials, just sincere thanks. Hopefully the news of 9,000 units instead of 7,000 will make some people breath a little better. Thanks for sharing this significant news with us fanatics here!

hey guys,

i am from a presidents award winning ford dealership waiting on at least two shelbys. the current news from ford to us is that you do not need svt certification. in fords online training programs and courses, there hasn't been any svt certification at all since 2004. as we know it now, all ford dealers will receive allocation for one, presidents award winners get an additional, and 2004 svt certified dealers get more additional allocations. the remaining alocation is supposed to be divided up after those are distributed. the only requirements for a dealer to receive a shelby was to turn in their money for sales advertising, which included the necessary certification (which wasn't an svt cert), and take two online sales courses, by may 26th, 2006. that is what we now as of right now.

No, all dealers were eligible to sign up to be certified to sell the GT500. I'm sure there were some that did not, but I'd guess a majority did. These are the only ones that can now sell the Shelby.

OK, let me clarify what I meant about which dealers will be selling GT500's. When I said "SVT-certified", I should have said "GT500-certified." Sorry for the confusion.

It is NOT true that every single Ford dealer will get a GT500! Only those dealers who have elected to enroll in the 2007-8 GT500 program, paid their fees, done the training, and passed the certification tests required. I can't imagine for a minute that all 3,777 Ford dealers are going to sign up to sell GT500's. The GT500 brand manager told us today that we should have a final count and allocation #'s by the end of May along with final pricing for all 2007 Mustangs (V6, GT, GT500).

Also, can you explain how they might be going about discouring MSRP mark-ups? Trying to figure out how to get my hands on a Shelby with out getting robbed has been quite a challenge.
